There are items of clothing that effortlessly integrate into a wardrobe. They are not loud, not overly fashionable – and yet they make an outfit more interesting.
For me, a shirt with a beautiful neckline detail falls right into this category.
Especially fine pleats at the round neckline change the effect of an otherwise simple shirt: they bring something feminine to the look without appearing playful. And precisely for this reason, such a top can be combined in surprisingly versatile ways.
From elegant to business to jeans and sneakers – here are six styling ideas.

1. Classic & Elegant – Cream meets Rosé
Light fabric trousers and a shirt in a muted rosé create a wonderfully calm, feminine look. Nude or cognac pumps, a structured handbag, and delicate gold jewelry complement this perfectly.
This works for dining out, in the office, or anywhere you want to look well-groomed without dressing too formally.
Styling tip: The simpler the color palette, the more prominent small cut details like pleats, gathers, or a special neckline can be.
2. Summer & Light
With wide linen trousers or trousers made from a linen-like fabric, the shirt immediately takes on a summery vibe.
Cream, natural white, sand, and warm beige create a particularly harmonious combination. Flat leather sandals, a wicker bag, and some gold jewelry – this look really doesn't need much more.
And here, the shirt can definitely be short-sleeved.
3. Casual & Modern – Simply with Jeans
Perhaps the most uncomplicated combination of all: shirt, jeans, sneakers.
To still make the look appear dressed up, I would choose straight-leg or wide-leg jeans rather than very tight jeans. A leather belt and a small crossbody bag give the outfit structure.
This is where the value of a special neckline detail really shows: even though the outfit consists of absolute basics, it doesn't look boring.
4. Autumnal & Warm

Olive, cream, and cognac are among those color combinations that almost always work in autumn.
The olive-colored shirt with light trousers looks soft and high-quality; brown ankle boots and a cognac-colored bag add warmth.
You could wear a camel or cream-colored wool coat, a long cardigan, or a classic trench coat with this.
5. Business & Chic
For a slightly more formal look, we simply swap the light trousers for dark fabric trousers.
Anthracite, black, or deep navy work excellently with taupe, cream, or a muted rosé. Add pumps or elegant loafers – and you have an uncomplicated business look.
The advantage over a classic blouse: a jersey shirt remains comfortably soft and allows for easy movement.
6. Weekend & Relaxed
And, of course, it can be completely uncomplicated.
Casual jeans, loafers or sneakers, a soft bag, and possibly a scarf are perfectly sufficient. Especially for such everyday looks, it's worth having a few good shirts in different colors in your wardrobe.
One shirt – and suddenly many possibilities

When you look at these different combinations, something becomes clear: you don't actually need new clothes all the time.
A well-fitting shirt in a color that matches your existing wardrobe can perform surprisingly many tasks.
And if you want to sew just such a shirt yourself…
The looks in this post all have one starting point in common: a feminine shirt with pleats at the round neckline.
That's exactly what the CAMOVA "Pleated Shirt" sewing pattern is for.
The pattern is designed for sizes 36–50 and can be sewn with both long and short sleeves. Jersey, interlock, and light elastic fabric qualities are suitable.
The special detail is the pleats in the front. They are laid according to the markings and initially secured within the seam allowance so that they remain nicely even during further processing.
Which fabrics and colors would I choose?
For an elegant look, I would opt for a soft, rather matte jersey. Taupe, warm gray, cream, olive, dark blue, chocolate brown, or muted rosé are particularly easy to combine.
If you want to emphasize the pleats more, you can also partially topstitch them when sewing. This option is also included in the instructions.
And perhaps that's the most beautiful idea behind this pattern:
Not six different tops for six different looks – but one sewing pattern from which you can sew exactly the shirts that suit your personal style.
